Transportation

Due to the limited amount of public, overnight parking and numerous restrictions on parking and vehicular access during winter storms, it is advised to avoid taking a private car up the canyon to Alta unless needed. Please see a map of designated overnight parking areas. There are shuttles available from the airport, as well as taxi service from anywhere in the valley.

The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) provides frequent bus service to various stops at both Alta and Snowbird during most of the ski areas’ operating seasons. Please visit the schedules and maps page on UTA’s website for more information about various UTA bus and rail service routes, and scroll down to routes 952, 953, 990, and 992 for information about service in Little Cottonwood Canyon.

There are numerous taxi and shuttle companies who serve our canyon visitors to and from the Salt Lake International Airport in four wheel drive vans. The following is a list and contact information for these Alta-licensed businesses.

You may also access the Town by private vehicle. Utah law requires vehicles on State Route 210 to be equipped with snowtires and chains or 4WD from November through May. Please be aware that due to limited space and snow removal issues, we have parking regulations that are strictly enforced. Please see a map of overnight parking areas in Alta, and be aware of nearby parking signage in all parking areas.

The Town of Alta helps fund the Alta Resort Shuttle that makes a continuous loop from 8:30am – 5:30pm along numerous stops on the ByPass Road up to the Alta Ski Area during the winter ski season. You can also request a pickup by calling the Shuttle bus at 801-301-0122. Easy. Fast. Frequent. And Free!
