MT. SUPERIOR AVALANCHE MITIGATION PROJECT

MT. SUPERIOR AVALANCHE MITIGATION PROJECT
SUMMER 2024
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) will be commencing work on the Mount Superior Avalanche Mitigation Project on Monday, July 8, 2024. The work is estimated to be completed in October 2024. They will be installing Wyssen Avalanche Towers, a type of Remote Avalanche Control System (RACS) on the Mt. Superior Ridgeline above SR-210.This project will help UDOT transition away from the P-Ridge Howitzer that has been used on the south side of the canyon, shooting over the road and buildings in the Town of Alta.

What to Expect During Construction:

  • Crews working up to 7 days a week, sunrise to sunset. Work will not stop for holidays due to limited construction season.
  • A recreation area closure will be in place for the duration of the project. For your safety and the safety of others, please respect all closures. Click here for a map of the installation/closure area.
  • Intermittent road closures may occur throughout the project on SR-210 between Snowbird Entry 4 and the top of the Bypass Road (the “mainline” section).
  • Noise impacts are likely as helicopters will be flying in the area daily.
