Memorial Grove

The Town of Alta frequently receives requests from the public to host special events at Memorial Grove. Due to extremely limited parking and the sensitive nature of the alpine environment at Memorial Grove, group size is limited. Please contact the Town of Alta at 801-363-5105 for more information.

The Alta Memorial Grove is a small scenic area located about 1.5 miles up the Albion Basin Road (open summer only).

The idea of creating a memorial to the people who helped establish Alta had been churning for years. Finally in 1996, the Friends of Alta and the Town of Alta organized a committee to commit to a plan. The Town accepted responsibility for the maintenance and protection of the area. A secluded area about halfway up the Summer Road was designated as the site and the Forest Service approved a special use permit in 1999.

Improvements were made to the area with cooperative support from the Friends of Alta, the Town, the Alta Ski Area and the USFS. A small pullout was built on the side of the road and a 300′ path was formed that leads to the meadow. Small saplings are planted every year to add to the existing trees.

Stone taken from lower Little Cottonwood Canyon was used to form a simple, granite monument and a bench was placed nearby to create a peaceful and beautiful environment to be used for reflection or in celebration of this garden we call Alta. It is also a great place to stop and rest on a bike ride up the road.
